Pawan Kalyan, Nandini granted divorce

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Family Court here on Tuesday granted divorce to film actor Pavan Kalyan and his wife Nandini. The order was issued after they agreed for an out-of-court settlement in Hyderabad recently. Pavan Kalyan, who is brother of film star Chiranjeevi, paid Rs.5 crore as alimony to Nandini towards the one-time settlement. The divorce decree issued by Family Court Judge L. Durga Prasad put an end to the one-year-old legal battle between the two.

Differences between Mr. Pavan Kalyan and Ms. Nandini surfaced some time after they were married in May 1997. Ms. Nandini filed a case in July 2007 alleging that her husband resorted to bigamy and had a son through a former film actress Renuka Desai. She listed 14 members of Chiranjeevi’s family as accused in the case. The court dismissed this petition and Ms. Nandini obtained a stay from the High Court.

Later, Mr. Pavan Kalyan filed a divorce petition in the Family Court here and Ms. Nandini filed one for maintenance. Her interim petition seeking Rs.5 lakh a month as monthly allowance was dismissed by the court and she secured stay from the High Court on this order too.

Negotiations between the sides were held some 15 days ago in Hyderabad and it was decided to settle the issue amicably. Mr. Pavan Kalyan paid Rs.5 crore as alimony and Ms. Nandini decided to withdraw the cases which she had filed. On Tuesday morning, they submitted a joint petition to the Family Court and appeared before the Judge who issued the divorce decree.
